Janet L. Everson

Director

Janet Everson’s practice emphasizes professional liability claims involving accountants and lawyers, areas in which she has achieved significant experience and success. Throughout her career, Ms. Everson has counseled individual lawyers and accountants, as well as law firms, accounting firms and small to mid-sized businesses.

Ms. Everson routinely deals directly with the tax authorities to correct late elections, reduce or eliminate penalties, or otherwise mitigate damages before litigation is commenced.

Prior to joining Murphy Pearson Bradley Feeney, she served as an adjunct professor at Thomas Jefferson School of Law as the law school’s assistant coach for its 2000-2001 Mock Trial Team.

  • Authored The Doctrine of Quasi-Judicial Immunity – Extending Beyond the Bench, published by the Defense Research Institute on May 26, 2010
  • Authored The Office of the Taxpayer Advocate – What Every Taxpayer Needs To Know, published by the Defense Research Institute in December 2009
  • Featured speaker at the DRI Young Lawyers convention in Las Vegas, June 2009; the topic of her speech, Five Ways to Avoid a Legal Malpractice Claim

Selected Client Representations

Canal Properties v. Lippenberger Thompson – In a complaint for malpractice/cross complaint for breach of contract, successfully obtained summary judgment on the malpractice complaint and judgment in favor of the lawyer for $280,000 in unpaid fees.

Ronan v. Dutra – Successfully defended an attorney sued for malicious prosecution.  Underlying case involved the lawyer’s representation of a home buyer in a suit against a residential property inspector. The plaintiff's demand before trial was $1,000,000.

Clear Channel v. Advertising Display Systems - Successfully defended a local outdoor advertising company and its counsel sued for malicious prosecution arising out of a business litigation dispute.  The unpublished appellate court opinion may be found at Clear Channel Outdoor Advertising, Inc. v. Advertising Display Systems, Cal.Rptr.3d, 2007 WL 2730399.
