Robert W. Lucas

Senior Associate

Mr. Lucas joined Murphy, Pearson, Bradley & Feeney in 2002, after practicing for several years in Southern California and later Sacramento.   Mr. Lucas’ practice emphasizes litigation in not only state and federal court, but also administrative proceedings before local and state agencies.  He practices in state and federal court, primarily focusing on the defense of professionals, including attorneys and architects, products liability, unfair business practices, employment law, and commercial general liability with a special emphasis on complex law and motion, writ and appellate proceedings.

Prior to joining Murphy, Pearson, Bradley & Feeney, Mr. Lucas served as an Extern Clerk to the Honorable Richard M. Sims, III, Associate Justice of the California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District, and as a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Tustin, California. 

Highlights

  • Obtained a doubled attorney fee award of over $61,000.00 and an additional $9,800 in sanctions against the plaintiff's counsel in successfully defending a law firm and its attorneys against conspiracy and malicious prosecution claims
  • Successfully defended a law firm and its attorneys against allegations of elder abuse arising out of their handling of a real estate transaction.
  • Obtained a judgment in favor of two law firms who failed to include a farmer in a lawsuit that had obtained a seven figure verdict with regard to price fixing in the tomato market
  • Obtained a judgment in favor of a car dealership against allegations that the dealer committed fraudulent business practices that violated both the Consumer Remedies Legal Act and Automobile Sales Finance Act when the dealer assigned a retail installment sales contract to a bank at a different interest rate than set forth in the contract
  • Defended motor vehicle dealerships in lawsuits defective automobiles, snowmobiles, personal watercraft, and ATVs.
  • Class counsel for the retiree class in Sacramento County in the coordinated statewide matter involving county retirement benefits, In re Retirement Cases (2003) 110 Cal. App. 4th 426.
  • Acted as amicus curiae counsel for numerous California cities before both the California Supreme Court and United States Supreme Court

Mr. Lucas is a member of the Labor and Employment and Antitrust and Unfair Competition sections of the State Bar of California.  He is also a member of the Sacramento County Bar Association, in which he belongs to the Appellate and Labor Law sections.

Community Contributions

Mr. Lucas, an Eagle Scout, is the Committee Chair for Boy Scout Troop 633 in Rancho Murieta, and is a lector and usher at Trinity Episcopal Church in Folsom.  He is also is a licensed referee for the United States Soccer Association and has refereed countless youth soccer matches throughout the Sacramento region.
